Welcome to Martha’s Vineyard

Martha’s Vineyard offers idyllic island living.

Located just a short ferry ride from Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard is the definition of island paradise. Visitors and residents alike can take advantage of sandy beaches, romantic sailboats, old lighthouses, and endless historic charm. The island is made up of six small towns: Aquinnah, Chilmark, Edgartown, Oak Bluffs, Tisbury, and West Tisbury. Each town has its own distinctive personality, history, attractions, and a variety of places to stay. The smells of the ocean, the stunning views, and the small-town charm appeal to both locals and visitors alike.

Immerse yourself in the history of the island with a visit to Martha’s Vineyard Museum, which aims to inspire people to understand and explore their island heritage. Located in Tisbury, the museum serves as a historical and cultural institution that features art, artifacts, documents, and photographs that help promote and preserve the island’s history.

Start off your morning with a cup of coffee from Espresso Love, located in Edgartown. This charming shop is known for its perfectly prepared lattes, friendly baristas, and welcoming atmosphere. For a casual bite to eat, be sure to check out Among the Flowers Cafe, situated within walking distance to the Edgartown Harbor. This charming cafe has been a part of the community since its first opening 43 years ago, specializing in healthy and delicious meals made with fresh and local ingredients. Vineyard Vines is known for their casual comfort clothes for the whole family whereas Alley’s General Store is the place to pick up trinkets or a gift for a friend.

Things to Do

The island is home to five lighthouses, with Edgartown Lighthouse being one of the most famous to visit. Located at the entrance to Katama Bay and Edgartown harbor, the two-story lighthouse was first constructed in 1828. Although public access to the lighthouse is limited, it’s become an important part of various community events, such as Independence Day fireworks.

Spend the day soaking up the sunshine at Katama Beach, a three-mile long public beach located just four miles south of Edgartown. As one of the most popular beaches on the island, the rolling surf is perfect for boogie boarding, swimming, flying kites, or enjoying the fresh air.

Martha’s Vineyard features a varied mix of festivals throughout the year, which means that there’s always something exciting taking place here. Be sure to add Martha’s Vineyard Food & Wine Festival, Martha’s Vineyard Book Festival, and African American Film Festival to your calendar. If you’re new to town, these festivals will provide the perfect opportunity for you to get connected and meet your neighbors.
