Oh, the stories the Custom House Tower could tell! From its high vantage point overlooking the waterfront area it watched and heard the incredible changes taking place over the last sixty years, as the area changes from a working harbor of wharves and warehouses that echoed with the whistles of steamships from around the world to today's Waterfront dominated by hotels, condominiums, marinas, and a park. Only the Custom House Tower and a surviving working warehouse or two recall the romance and commerce of this revitalized port area.
Warehouses, wharf structures, and commercial buildings have been restored, renovated, and converted into luxury living spaces, specialty shops, and office buildings. And it has all been done with a determination to retain the Waterfront's uniqueness and charm. The result is that the Waterfront is clearly one of the most exclusive residential addresses in the city.
